about

In 1991 He Dark Age (hedarkage.bandcamp.com) had a twin cassette release under the titles Queel and Agua Queel. There were distinct stylistic differences between the tracks that were recorded with Tony Milner before he left for Sydney sometime in 1990/91 and those written and recorded after he left.

I have indulged in a spot of revisionism and have rebadged the releases as He Dark Age: 'Queel Consolidated' and The Sump: 'Sump Sort A Beginning,' with the songs on the latter release being those I wrote after Tony left. The songs on 'Sump Sort Of A Beginning' all have a similar feel (basically riping off Swans) and, to my ears, very different from HDA. They were recorded at home with Su Crowley contributing synth and sax. It was essentially the beginning of The Sump as Su then played on the 1992 Sump release 'Cheek By Jowl'.

They're home recordings mixed down onto digital hi-fi video, so the quality is suspect. Thanks yet again to Greg Wadley for a sterling remastering effort to get them into a listenable state.
