about

This was a bit of a mishmash of stuff recorded around the mid-90s and released as a cassette in 1995. The full 5 piece line-up that was photographed for article in Brisbane's free weekly music rag, Rave (see bonus article), doesn't even feature together in any of the songs. It's so long ago, I can't remember the hows and whys of it, but the full line-up didn't last the extent of these recordings, let alone beyond it.

Soon after this release, it all fell apart anyway and it was only Deborah who continued on with me to the next version of the band that eventually released as CD under the name Pulled Down Blind.

The songs on this release were recorded at home on my Fostex 8 track recorder, but one side (tracks 1 to 6) was mixed at Vibrafeel studios, while the other side was mixed by me. Consequently, there is a quite noticeable variation in quality. However, Greg Wadley has once again done a great remastering job with what little he had to work with the second side.

The line-up that features most prominently in the release is me, Deborah, Pat and Jeffrey. The stuff with John W appears to be leftovers from the Cheek By Jowl release, while Steven Pritchard (who I was working with in a side project called In My Skin - see He Dark Age on Bandcamp) also steps on tub duties for the track Stretcher.

The Sump Brisbane, Australia

A post He Dark Age project started by Paul Newsome, there was initially no band to speak of, just recordings made with friends.

However, the most recognisable line-up was a 5 piece with Wegener, Willsteed, Newsome, Cavallaro and Ridgewell
